Generation One Living Learning Community
As a first-generation student, Generation One Living Learning Community is a place where you can share the unique triumphs and challenges of navigating college life with your first-generation peers. Create shared experiences and foster growth as you work with fellow first-generation students. (Note: A student is identified as a first-generation college student if neither parent or guardian has earned a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university.)
What is “Generation One” also known as a first-generation student?
Generation One or also known as a first-generation student, is someone whose parent(s) did not obtain a bachelor’s degree, regardless of other family member’s level of education.
Often, a Generation One student faces challenges such as a lack of familial experience navigating the college app process, financial aid and higher education experience. “Fifty-four percent of undergraduate students in the U.S. identify themselves as first-generation" (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators).
