ACT/SAT Scores

K-State is test optional which means admission can be granted using other academic information. However, most university scholarships and awards for freshmen require an ACT or SAT.

Also beginning with the class of 2021 K-State will accept superscores for the ACT Composite and SAT ERW+M. The highest total score will be accepted via student self-reporting, from high school transcripts or from the testing agency (ACT beginning in September 2020). The application for admission will change on June 1 when students can begin applying for the Fall 2021 term. K-State will also begin internal superscoring including any individual ACT or SAT subject/section scores received. Superscores will be used for admission and scholarship awarding.

Qualified admission recommended precollege curriculum

Challenging academics in high school are important to your success. The following curriculum is recommended for high school and homeschool students. This curriculum will help prepare you for university-level work.

Subject	Units recommended*	Courses to take
English	4	4 years of English, one unit taken each year of high school, 1/2 unit may be Speech
Natural sciences	3	3 years of Natural Science. For students entering STEM majors taking, one year of Chemistry or Physics is recommended. Common courses include: Biology Advanced Biology (2nd Year) Earth Science Environmental Science Aerospace Astronomy Marine Science Botany Microbiology Geology Chemistry Physics Principles of Technology Physical Science Meteorology Genetics Zoology
Math	3 or 4	3 years of Math if the student also obtains a 22 ACT math subscore, 570 math subscore on the SAT. Common courses include: Algebra I Geometry Algebra II Any course with Algebra II as a prerequisite OR 4 years of Math, with one unit taken in the graduating year. Common courses include: Algebra I Geometry Algebra II Any course with Algebra II as a prerequisite
Social sciences	3	3 years of Social Science that include instruction in U.S. History, U.S. Government, and geography. Most social science courses include this type of instruction.
Electives	3	3 years of additional preparatory work. Common courses include: English Math Natural Science Social Science Fine Arts Journalism Computer/Information Systems Foreign Languages Personal Finance Speech, Debate, Forensics Career and Technical Education
Semester-long courses which combine to total years of instruction are encouraged.

 

*For freshmen students who graduated between 2015 and 2020. The above curriculum was required. For those classes, Kansas residents were required to earn a 2.0 or higher GPA on the precollege curriculum. Out-of-state residents were required to earn a 2.5 or higher GPA.
